Earthquake at Italy

On the 4 of April 2009, an earthquake shook Italy at about 0132 GMT. The 6.3 magnitude killed more than 130 people and was the worst earthquake since the 1980 earthquake in Italy. The earthquake was located near L'Aquila, which was badly damage. About 50,000 people were left homeless as thousands of houses and buildings were damaged or had already collapsed. Many people in L'Aquila cried of help while aftershocks rattled through the day.
The earthquake was due to faulting. Faulting is a result of plates on the earth's surface moving. As all the plates are moving, they would rub against each other, move away from each other or go under another plates. At these places, the movements are not smooth. Even if a place is connected it will still continue to move. So the rocks along the edges are strain until a point when the rock cannot with stand the strain and breaks. As the rock breaks, it shakes. The shaking produced by the rock is the earthquake.
